Equipment
All you really need is a ball, but we will provide you with the official ball if you do not have one. Just bring whatever beach ball you have to warm up with (more on the actual ball: Not all Volleyballs are created equal)
What to wear (necessities)
Guys: A pair of board/beach shorts and a t-shirt is pretty much the standard on the beach.
Girls: A pair of beach/gym shorts and a t-shirt. Most players wear a bathing suit underneath to be able to jump in the ocean between games.
NOTE: It is recommended to bring a sweatshirt just in case (also, the mornings can be somewhat cold).
NOTE: Some beaches tend to darken white shirts, don't bring your best shirt to play in. Use a light colored volleyball shirt.
What to bring (necessities)
1/2 Gallon of water or a container to hold that much water (GAV provides free water, but depending on your court location, it might be a far walk)
1-2 sport drinks (water is good, but your body also needs salt and electrolytes - it is recommended to mix sports drinks with water, not drink them pure)
snacks (while you might not get hungry, your body needs food to sustain itself ... sandwiches, nut/dried fruit mixtures, power bars are highly recommended)
Sunscreen (if you don't, you will get burned and be more tired than other players)
What to bring (highly recommended)
Sunglasses (the sun can be very bright sometimes causing players to lose the ball in the sun)
Sunscreen (trust me, you will need it)
Towel (useful for both whipping off sand & water if you decide to go in the ocean)
What to bring (recommended, to make your day easier/more fun)
A Beach Umbrella (it gets hot in the sun, this will cool you a bit)
A Big Towel/Blanket (to sit on if you do not like the sand too much)
Beach Chairs (to sit in, they are comfortable)
Games/Stories (to pass the time between games)
A little Sibling (to shag balls for you during warm ups)
While highly recommend checking the weather forecast the day before the tournament, remember, we play rain or shine ... except when rain also means thunder. Only about 2 tournaments in the 5 years of GAV have been fully cancelled due to weather.
