Beach Court Locations

At the shore:

  • If you have a net, any location along the Jersey shore could be made suitable for a game, but there are some spots in which people tend to meet and practice/play.
  • Belmar: Fourth Avenue area of Belmar, on any given Sunday after 10AM. Also, higher level players tend to practice here on Tuesday and Thursday eveninings after 5pm.
  • Long Branch: Pier Village has 2 great courts, but is considered the open level practice location. It's great for watching some higher level volleyball, but it would be hard to get a game after 5pm on any day.
  • Long Branch: by Rooneys (100 Ocean Ave N, Long Branch, NJ‎) there are 6 courts that sometimes have leagues going on. Check with Rooneys for availibilty.

Mercer County:

  • Morris Davison Park:  This park in Plainsboro has two beach volleyball courts available for public use.  Fortunately this is located a mere few minutes from WW-P North and South.
  • Washington Township (Robbinsville) Recreation area:  This facility is considered one of the best, if not the best, areas to play beach volleyball in New Jersey.  These courts are located about 15 minutes from West Windsor/Plainsboro off of route 130 south in Robbinsville, directly behind the courthouse, library and police station.   The courts are surrounded by an 8 foot fence and lights for nighttime use.
  • Hamilton’s Veteran’s Park:  This is the “birthplace” of beach volleyball for coaches Brian, Mike and Williams.  Located about 5 minutes off of route 195 in Hamilton, this park offers 4 courts so waiting to play rarely is an issue!
  • Mercer County Park:  While not the best of quality, Mercer County park has approximately 5 courts scattered about for public use.

Morris County:

  • Rock Spring Park: Located at top of Schooley's Mountain has two beach courts. They are in descent condition, but there are plans to make them competition worthy in 2009.

Directions from the West are: Chester on Route 24 to the center of LongValley and then turn right onto Schooley's Mountain Road. The Park is located at the top and you can park either right before the police station on the right, or turn right at the traffic light after the police station (you have now gone through the only two traffic lights in our town), past the football field and turn right into the park entrance where there is a larger parking lot right by the courts.

Middlesex County:

  • Rutgers Busch Beach Courts:  There are 3 descent courts located by the Sunny Werblin gym at the Busch campus in Rutgers Piscataway. These courts are heavily used by local volleyball players from Rutgers and the surroundings and it might prove difficult to find an open net on busy days such as Tuesdays and Thursdays (usually it gets busy around 5pm).

  • Rutgers Cook Beach Courts: There are 2 descent courts located by the Cook gym on Cook campus in Rutgers New Brunswick. These courts experience little use and even have lights. The downside is that the nets tend to sag just a little bit (for the women's net) and are too high for the men's net (if you bring 2 gallon jugs of water and rope, they become perfect).

The address you can use for maps.google.com is:   cpo way, new brunswick, nj

(If you look this up through google maps, maximize the view and click on the satellite feature (top right), you will see some basketball courts ... the sand courts are the strip of yellow to the left of the basketball courts.)
